The 2012 elections returned President Obama to the White House, and Democrats continue to control the Senate. But Republicans still control the House, and we see more attacks on those who are struggling, more votes to repeal Affordable Health Care, more attacks on women's reproductive rights, more stand offs over budgets; one crisis after another.

Therefore, 2014 Starts Now! We can't let 2010 happen next year. Read more HERE!

About 2014 Starts Now!

2014 Starts Now is dedicated to providing basic, continuing information on federal and state elections in the 50 states in advance of the 2014 mid-term elections.

Why "2014 Starts Now!"?

The 2012 elections have ended; the new Congress has been sworn in; the inauguration is over.. and it is time to go to work on 2014.  We can't let 2010 happen in 2014.

As long as the Republicans have so much control in Congress we will have one crisis after another.  We cannot underestimate how much power the Republicans still have and how that impacts public policy.

The Tea Party people are still noisy and active.  Obama and the Democrats still have major issues to deal with, and the Republicans, the Koch Brothers, the ALEC people, and the Tea Party people will still be out there spreading lies, promoting things taken out of context, and generally working against the middle, working classes and the people who are struggling in favor of the rich guys.

I have no illusions that the Democrats are perfect, but there is a vast difference between the two parties, their platforms, and their underlying beliefs.

Yes, many states have seriously gerrymandered districts, thus making it very difficult or even next to impossible for Democrats or people leaning Democratic to get as much representation in Congress or in the state legislatures as they deserve.  But despite this, the Democrats picked up about a dozen seats in the 113th Congress over the 112th Congress, and these gains can be increased by carefully targeting districts that can be moved from the Republican to the Democratic column based on demographics and 2012 returns.  2014 Starts Now is going to be looking at these states and at these Congressional races to help to determine which races can be won by Democrats in November 2014.

The Layout of this Site:

Each state has a page,  which you can link to HERE, which includes a short summary of the challenges and opportunities for that state, both in the federal Congress and at the state level.  Each page also includes links to the most recent news involving that state.

If you are more concerned with the Senate, you can find a summary of the Senate situation with state-by-state Senate information HERE, at our Keep the Senate Blue! page with Senate information.

If you are wondering if and how the House can be turned Blue come 2014, you can find a summary of the House situation with state-by-state House information HERE, at our Turn Congress Blue! page with information about the House of Representatives.

I welcome ideas and inspiration from all as I work out the details of this site.

But 2014 must start now.  There is much work to be done.
